Plateau settles 5 months salary arrears

PLATEAU State Govern­ment has reiterated its de­termination to address the injustice meted out to some individuals in its work­force as regard promotion exercise. Besides, it has pledged to use the instru­ment of law to immedi­ately pursue the recovery of funds and government property carted away by some individuals.

In a statewide broadcast to the people of the state in commemoration of the 100 days of the present administration, Governor Simon Lalong said gov­ernment would address all appointments and promo­tion, which are not done in accordance with the rule of law.

He said the achieve­ments of the government in his 100 days in office should be seen in the light of taking practical steps to address the enormity of challenges left by the previous administration, which included the award of contracts without re­course to the rule of law, very low morale of the civ­il service and the security challenges that were threat­ening lives and property.

He said government had to take immediate step in addressing the lingering labour unrest, the injustice meted out to some office holders, deliberate abuse of the rule of law and find­ing a lasting solution to the violence in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South local government areas.

Lalong disclosed that his administration had been able to pay workers arrears for five months as well as three months pen­sion arrears; promising that government would pay the outstanding arrears as soon as the remaining bailout fund was received
