Osinbajo tasks politicians on selfless service



…Commends APC legal adviser, Banire

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged Nige­rian politicians to be more selfless in their service to the nation.

He gave this advice at a reception held in honour of the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muiz Banire at the Oceanview Restaurant of Eko Hotels, Lagos yesterday. Ban­ire was last Monday decorated along with others as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

While describing Banire as a selfless politician, an em­bodiment of good qualities, VP Osinbajo said, “he was a serious minded student, con­summate intellectual, a politi­cian and a great scholar who deserves this great honour.”

Dignitaries at the event in­cluded Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Inspector General of Police, IGP Solo­mon Arase, former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), his ex-deputy, Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, current Governor of the state, Akinwunmi Am­bode represented by his depu­ty, Oluranti Adebule, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai represented by Sena­tor Sulaimon Marafa Garba, former deputy governor of Delta, Prof Amos Otuama, Senator Olorunnimbe Ma­mora, Chief Femi Okunnu, Chief Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS), several Su­preme Court, Court of Appeal, State and Federal High Court Judges among many others.

In his goodwill message at the event, Governor Areg­besola described Banire as a man of integrity and asked him to stay focused in his self­less service to the country and humanity.

Former Lagos governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Ti­nubu said Banire’s elevation as SAN “is long in coming,” adding that, “Your love for justice and nation has brought you this far.”

A senior legal practitioner, Ladi Williams (SAN), in his goodwill message said, “I have been impressed by his hard work, intelligence and intellectualism. I wrote the recommendation for his SAN application because of his doggedness and he is highly knowledgeable in law.”

Speaking on behalf of for­mer Commissioners in Lagos, Dr Leke Pitan described Bani­re as a “steadfast, eloquent and sincere person.”

In his own words, ex-gov­ernor Fashola said Banire’s elevation “is a most deserving award for your selfless contri­bution to the development of law in Nigeria”, while Senator Solomon who spoke on behalf of Mushin community in La­gos said “Muiz

is a good ambassador of Mushin. We are proud of him.”

In his own remarks at the occasion, Banire expressed his appreciation to all the dignitar­ies who attended the event for their goodwill messages, say­ing, “This will surely spur me to do more in my profession, my country and humanity.”
